Bad Design

My bad product that I have chosen to talk about is the power plug for my reading lamp(shown on the left).
The power plug is badly designed due to its unnecessary large size, the power plug conduct 240v, 50hz of electricity. With that amount of electricity the plug does not need to be overly large.

The power plug has a manufactured size of 8 cm height and 5 cm width, this provide the consumer with many major problems such as storing, aesthetic.

However the major problem of this design is not shown until it is in used in a common power plug. The common busy household usually has a double power point for ease of use, due to its size and placement of the metal conductor of the plug when placed on the left hand side of a double power point it will block and cover the right side of the power point and prevent usage.

Another problem that also occurs is when you place the plug on the right hand side of the power point the edge is large enough that it blocks the right side preventing it of used as well, as you can see with the picture on your left that which ever way you move the plug it will continuously cover both of the power point due to its bad design.

Suggested Improvement

I have designed a power plug that can help with this problem, i have reduced the size of the plug greatly from the original 5 x 8 cm to 3 x 5 cm for smaller and easier usage. I have also designed that the pin conductor to be able to be rotated so it is easier to use.
