Paul Bennet video reflection

DESIGN IN THE DETAIL
This video talks about the most important factor of product design, the functions and designing a product through people's experience. Paul main philosophy of design is to "put your self in their shoe" and "using eyes to create possibilities" he emphasizes the important for a designer to observe the product aim through the eyes of the consumer and experience the problem in order to create a possible solution and a great product.
Paul gave us an example of his theory in his hospital design in Minnesota's, " Small is the new big" he talked about how small changes can help to inspire the patience, in the hospital where changes in decoration on the ceiling can help to enrich the experience of the patients who watch the bare ceiling throughout the day.
He also started to create small prototype of a rear view bicycle mirror to help broaden the communication between the patients and the nurse.

Another example is his example of his designer friends who work at Ikea that took his research for a children storage unit to extreme measure, for his friend to design a great storage for children he must put himself into the children's experience on storage he took the idea of hiding under the table to create a suitable product to store items for children.

Yves Behar: Designing objects that tell stories

Yves Behar was the speaker in the video this week and he spoke about how in every design it is important to view the product from both the inside and the outside, not only the skin as he describe it. In the Jawbone headset Yves and his team of designers work tirelessly on both the looks and the electronical parts of the design, the were able to change the technical and electronic bits of the product by using cads and other associated product. This shows that his ideology is one that products needs to be both aesthetically good and perfectly functional to give value to the product
"Values creates soul in company"
Another good example of his ideology is shown on the sworsvki crystal light that continiously change shapes depending on the directed shape projected to the bottom scree, Yves has design this inside out to perfection once again to give value and perfection to this product.

This video has helped me to realise that a good design must cover both the aesthetic and the function part in order to be a succesful product, I must also consider every aspect of my design from the biggest to the smallest detail. For example In the leaf lamp in which Yves has built, he has also designed and considered the light bulb to make it more environmentally friendly.

Ross Lovegrove: The power and beauty of organic design... Video Review

In the video the speaker Ross Lovegrove spoke about the power of nature how it can be used in everyday design to touch consumers "soul and emotions". Ross choose his style of designs for philosophical and aesthetic reasons as he view nature and its ever evolving design. Ross has tried to incorporate the natural world combined with high tech processes to create his unique design, he views that the evolution of nature and microscopic organism gives an example of a perfect design. This ideology that has been presented has helped me to understand the important in considering and incorporating some aspect of nature and its understanding in my work in both designing and manufacturing all along, if it works for nature and animals then why can't we take some of their design into considerations.

Ross talked about his ideology and work of DNA ( Design, Nature, Art) and gave example of his works in Ty Nant water bottle and the Go chair, he views nature evolution an idea of designers also evolving t
o suit the needs of the modern world. For eg he talked about his Ty Nant bottle which he design specifically to show the nature in the product of water " putting a skin and an icon into nature itself" another example is his Go chair, he has compared the structure of his chair into skeletal structure and joints in the human world. This video has helped me to understand his view on the important of representing in the product you've design some aspects of nature and the natural world.

I personally are interested in the way, Ross has incorporated the unique design of a water droplet in a hot pan into his modern design of his stick car. Powered by solar paneled and can also be used as a street lamp at nights.

This video has given me insights into his idea of putting nature design and incorporated it into my own design.

Video reflection 1

In this video of David Kelly spoke of the important of design for the future of the human race, this video is specifically made to entice younger generations to share your ideas and design to the world to help to build a better lifestyle.

To me this video has help broaden my view on products and industrial design, before i view industrial designs as a mere product created to create a marginally huge amount of profit for the manufacturing company, however in this video David has spoken about the important of designs and how it has changed this past 18 years and how it has influenced our daily life.

David spoke how today most designers are considering behaviour and personality of the consumer to provide a more enjoyable experience for the consumer and provide a relationship between the designer, manufacturer and the customer.
David has used Prada as a case study to futher explain his theory and definition of a more "human centered" design to the listener, shows how Prada has used products that helps and satisfied the consumer needs and wants. Products such as the staff LCD device, the changing room liquid wall " Magic Mirror" that helps simplify communication between staff and consumers.

The video speaks also about a product call the spyfish used to satisfy human intrigue and human exploration of the sea, this is an example of a human centered design as it considered the wants of the people who had not have the chance to go to the ocean.

The video has changed my view on products and designers!

Sombrero

Sombreros
Sombrero is a product designed to be used as a cable manager that is portable and easily used in both the office setting and at home.
The product is designed to be mounted on any desk surface, the product is called sombrero because of its relationship to the Mexican hat (sombreros) and designed for the managing the excess cable by winding it around its core and cable into any of the three V-shaped notches.

This design prevents the cables from coming loose dislodging and unwinding.
The product is made from a rubber that is flexible and the diameter of the core is suitable to accommodates most cable. Sombrero is easily installed using only a screwdriver and can also be mounted vertically onto a wall or cabinet.

This is the scent container that i have created during the friday class task, we were told to capture the image of the scent provided and model it to a clay model of a container. The scent that have been provided were scent D which ended up to be Beyond Paradise By Estee Lauder a perfume for women.

When i first capture the scent, i incorrectly guessed it to be a masculine cologne but after some time i began to realise that the perfume give out a feminine smell of floral and spring,
My container is int the shape of a flower blossoming because to me the scent captures the season of spring and exotic flower, the shape of the model were also based on a wine model to show a more formal and elligent setting because i think that this perfume is only used for special occasion and used in fine party or dining.
