RAZOR BLADE CD
Look at these beauty and deadly design for CD and mp3 player, this particular design let you enjoy music from both Cd's and MP. It's called DMP a portable music player that supports CD and MP3 files.
Abit concern about the safety part when its on CD mode look abit dangerous and hazardous, keep thinking that it would fly off at any sec and take of the head of the user (kinda remind me of Texas chainsaw massacre.. BRUMMM) overall good concept.

Power house Museum, Eat Green Design
I went to visit Power house museum last saturday to visit the Eat Green design exhibit on sustainable design and material to also listen to one of our own succesful designer Oliver Smith and his take on sustainable design, manufacturing and materials especially metal.
While in the Power house museum I looked at the eco wares design there are a number of designs that caught my attention.
Lapel chair , made out of 100% recycled plastic and made from a non toxic material. A very interesting design with the combination of origami fold style and everyday home plastic chair.
What also caught my attention in the exhibit is the ceiling of the museum, there hung a wonderful lights made from a laser cut spiral of plywood or cardboard, really gives the effect of the roof coming down.
Another design that I found very interesting is the folded chair made by carboard and foam, a very sustainable product.

I lovvve this floor lamp, I want one in my room right now!! It has a very unique and natural design that reflects nature and its beauty, sourced from local materials of plaster composite.
A very unique design of a side table with a design of an 0 and + kinda reminded me of Math class. Made entirely from bamboo (renewable resouce)

Design exhibit WORKSHOPPED 09
WORKSHOPPED 09
I visited the Workshopped 09 last saturday as well as the Power house museum. Its located in Chifley Plaza and it show cased a number of Australian furniture and product design that is very unique not to mention Cool looking.
This is one the most interesting table lamp ive seen so far, it's a Metal petal lamp that got its form duplicating a blooming flower petal at sunrise. I wondered whether the petal can be closed and open by hand, but since its on display and looks fragile I went with my better judgement not to touch the lamp ( looks expensive.. didn't wanna break it)
Slip magazine rack and Slide hall table
Slip magazine rack and Slide hall table
I personally like the traditional and cultural look to the design, its a multi-functional furniture used as a side table, stool or art decor. Its the work of collaboration between 2 aus designer Akira isogawa (fashion designer) and Fukutoshi Ueno (furniture designer)
Looking at it closely it looks like a puzzle pieces ready to be put and assembled together, the wall paper looking cover made the furniture traditionally and culturally represent the designer background. (Japanese design sooo cooll)
TOLED screen technology
I was surfing through the net and came across this, TOLED is the new version the OLED technology it stands for transparent organic light-emitting device and its being developed right now by a display company.
TOLED can be used in a thin transparent glass or plastic material that are able to emit light from top or bottom, TOLED technology has been widely used by the military in their HUD (heads-Up-Display) on their jet fighters
(so COOL)
The cool thing about TOLED is that its transparent when its not in used it is capable to be 70% to 90% transparent, and when in used the pixel can be set to be crystal clear and allow the background to be seen through the screen. Also the neat thing is that it can be configure to be used as normal non transparent OLED screen when turn on.
Teenagers love technological and sophisticated fuctions on their product so i will try and use this new technology for my Digitech alarm clock, as the TOLED screen can be 90% transparent when turned off and it can also be a non transparent screen when not in use.
example of current technological product using TOLED technology ( I want one :) )
Cool interactive Product
Looking at some successful product for teens (Me among them ), what i really learnt from current successful hip and cool perceived teenage technological product such as xbox, PS3 and the popular mobile phone, is that for teenager the technological function is very important but another very important factor of design is the form of the product and the way the teenager interact with them.
Most product designed for teen are small and portable as the teen like devices that are mobile and easy to carry around, and the basic form lacks sophistication. They prefer basic shape such as circles, squares, rectangle with the added curve and ergonomic feature into them. well I do....
Looking at some cool and hip product above such as the flip phone and very popular gaming device, the mechanism and interaction of a product is very important also, I'm a teenager my self and hey i want to feel hip and cool this can be achieved by some product by its interactive mechanism.
in the exampled product above they have incorporated the slide or flip mechanism in order for the teen to feel physically and emotionally involve with the product.
The XBOX 360 and the PS3 has corporates the slide mechanism to its CD input and out put and the hip top which every teenage girls perceived is cool after seeing them in GOSSIP GIRLS.
After looking at this concept of adding interactive features to make a product more cool or hip for teens, I'm going to try and incorporate this to my urban tribe assignment to my digitech alarm clock.

Oled Technology
LOOK AT THIS COOL NEW DEVELOPMENT
Oled technology will be the future of tv, computer monitor, mobile phone screen and who knows what people will come up with.
Organic light emitting diode (OLED), A significant benefit of OLED displays over traditional (LCDs) is that OLEDs do not require a back light to function. Thus they draw far less power that means it can be operate by a small portable battery making it last longer on the same charge.
Also because the screen doesnt need backlight an OLED display can be much thinner than an LCD panel, even to a 0.5mm thick paper size and they are developing a flexible version called AMOLED.
