Charade 2- Breville Kettle

For Charade number 2, a group of 5 ides students deconstruct and took apart a breville kettle to be analysed closely in detail and examine each part of the Breville kettle including the packaging to be analysed in the GreenFly website.

The picture above shows all the part of the kettle grouped up to components, there are 5 main component for the kettle. The main body, the handle, the docking station, the lid and the elements.

We then list each parts of the product and their material and input it into the website with the transportation as shipping from People Republic of China.
Our first result from the site wasn't pretty the product uses too much materials and energy to be processed, most of the part are not recyclable and the shipping cost is off the roof coz travelling from china to Australia isn't that particularly CLOSE. We then had to redesign the product to be produced cheaper, cheaper transport and more environmentally friendly.

We realised that the handle contains to many useless parts especially because of where the switch button is located, it was hard to disassembled and confusing to assembled it again. Our first re-design strategy is move the on button to the docking base to eliminate the the handle part all together by making the handle as one mold from the body, this will remove the need for 4 screws and also reduce the amount of material used.

Our second re-design strategy is to manufacture the entire body from clear PP to make the kettle more aesthetic and easier to be monitored and clean, it also canceled out the need for in moulding for the water meter.

The rendered picture on the right side is our final design of the product.

Below is the graph from the website of the original kettle design and the re-design of the kettle done by our team, we also planned a recyled return policy to help customer recyled the product and we also moved the manufacturing plants to Indonesia this is due to the cost issue with manufacturing and also that it is FAR more closer than China
